Daniel Cormier close to signing with Strikeforce

Two-time Olympian and the U.S. squad's 2008 Olympic team captain, Daniel Cormier, is close to signing a lengthy eight-fight contract with Strikeforce. The news of the possible signing was first reported by MMAFanhouse.com.

According to the report, once Cormier is signed he will make his MMA debut on the televised portion of  September 25's Strikeforce Challengers series event against an opponent that has not ye been named. He will be fighting in the light-heavyweight division.

Some of Cormier's many feats include three high school state championships in Louisiana, two JUCO national championship titles, NCAA Division I runner-up at Oklahoma State University in 2001, a 117-10 overall collegiate record that included three-time All-American honors, a six-time senior national champion freestyle wrestler and a fourth-place finish at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Cormier is currently training at the renowned American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California, where he is training with the likes of former UFC welterweight title contender Jon Fitch and UFC heavyweight contender Cain Velasquez, as well as current UFC welterweight contenders Mike Swick and Josh Koscheck.
