Danny Castillo may face Alex Karalexis at WEC 44
by Jacob Camargo on September 23, 2009

A lightweight bout between rising lightweight contender Danny Castillo and six-time WEC veteran Alex Karalexis may be in the works for WEC 44 in November. MMAjunkie.com is reporting that the fight has been agreed to, but Castillo reports via his personal twitter page that the fight is unlikely.

Castillo is on a three-fight winning streak, with wins over Rafael Dias, Phil Cardella, and most recently Ricardo Lamas at last month's WEC 42. Prior to the winning streak, he suffered a loss in his WEC debut, which was his first career loss, against Donald Cerrone at WEC 34 last June.

He sports a near perfect MMA record of 8-1, with seven of his wins coming via stoppage and he holds a notable win outside the WEC over Isaiah Hill. Also of note, he currently trains with former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber at Ultimate Fitness in California.

TUF 1 cast member, Karalexis, was originally slated to fight Anthony Pettis at WEC 43 in Oct. but he was forced off that event with an injury.

Karalexis (10-4) hasn't fought since defeating Greg McIntyre at WEC 39 in March. Prior to the win, he lost back-to-back fights against Ed Ratcliff and Bart Palaszewski. Karalexis sports a 4-2 WEC record, with other wins in the promotion over Josh SmithThomas Denny and Olaf Alfonso.

Before he switched over to the WEC, he went 1-2 in three fights with the UFC, losing to Jason Von Flue and Kenny Florian, while picking up his lone win with the promotion over Josh Rafferty. Six of his 10 career wins have come via stoppage including five by TKO or KO.

WEC 44 takes place on Nov. 18 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV and the main card airs live on Versus. The event is headlined by a WEC Featheweight title bout between current champ Mike Brown and challenger, Jose Aldo.
