Danny Castillo vs. Shane Roller officially added to WEC 44 main card
by Jacob Camargo on October 11, 2009

The WEC announced the addition of a lightweight bout between Danny Castillo and Shane Roller to the televised main card portion of its WEC 44 event in November.

The announcement of the bout was made during the broadcast of last night's WEC 43 event on the Versus network.

Castillo was originally rumored to be taking on Alex Karalexis at WEC 44, however, Karalexis was forced off of the event.

Castillo is riding a three-fight winning streak, with wins over Rafael Dias, Phil Cardella, and most recently Ricardo Lamas at WEC 42 in August. Prior to the winning streak, he suffered a loss in his WEC debut, his first career defeat, against Donald Cerrone at WEC 34 last June.

The Gladiator Challenge veteran, Castillo, sports a near perfect MMA record of 8-1, with seven of his wins coming via stoppage and he holds a notable win outside the WEC over Strikeforce veteran Isaiah Hill. Also of note, he currently trains with former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber at Ultimate Fitness in California.

Roller (6-2) is also coming off a win at WEC 42 as he defeated Marcus Hicks at the August event. Prior to the win, he suffered just his second career loss at the hands of current WEC interim lightweight champ Ben Henderson at WEC 40.

The three-time All-American wrestler from Oklahoma State University, Roller, is 3-1 in four fights with the WEC, scoring other wins in the promotion over Todd Moore and Mike Budnik. One other interesting note about Roller is that doesn't like to go the distance as he has scored stoppage victories in all but one of his six career wins.

WEC 44 takes place on Nov. 18 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV with the main card airing live on Versus. The event is headlined by a WEC Featheweight title bout between current champ Mike Brown and challenger, Jose Aldo.

Other bouts slated to appear on the televised main card of the event include a lightweight bout between former WEC lightweight champ Rob McCullough and Anthony Pettis as well as a crucial featherweight bout between UFC veterans Manny Gamburyan and Leonard Garcia.
