A lightweight bout between undefeated prospect Dave Jansen and WEC sophomore Kamal Shalorus is in the works for WEC 46 in January. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.
As reported here several days ago, Jansen was originally in talks to face WEC newcomer Bendy Casimir at WEC 46, however, it is not yet known why that bout did not come to fruition.
Jansen was successful in his recent WEC debut, scoring an impressive unanimous decision win over former WEC lightweight champion Rich Crunkilton at WEC 43 in October. The SportFight and M-1 Challenge veteran sports a undefeated 14-0 MMA record, with nine of those wins coming by stoppage.
Shalorus recently made an impressive WEC debut, as he scored a first-round TKO over fellow WEC newcomer Will Kerr at WEC 44 on Nov. 18. The bout was originally slated for the preliminary card, but was moved to the televised main card due to time constraints.
Prior to entering the WEC, Shalorus competed mostly for Extreme Challenge, Supreme Warrior Championship and King of Kombat. He has put together an unbeaten 5-0-1 MMA record during his young career, with all five of his wins coming by stoppage including four by TKO or KO.
WEC 46 takes place on Jan. 10 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and will be headlined by a WEC lightweight title unification bout between WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner and interim title holder Benson Henderson. Also, former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber will take on rising contender Raphael Assuncao in the co-main event.
