Another sign of the continued decline of Japanese MMA, Sengoku has released exciting heavyweight prospect Dave Herman. It is being reported by MMAFighting.com that the UFC has picked him up.
Herman will come into the UFC with a 20-2 record, including a disqualification for an illegal knee against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. Since the knee, Herman has put together two straight wins in Bellator and Sengoku.
He adds another exciting fighter to a suddenly lackluster division plagued by injuries. If Herman takes his career seriously, his combination of size, strength and skill could lead him down a very successful path in the UFC.
His promotional debut has yet to be announced.
Herman is the second top flight fighter released by the ailing Japanese promotion in the past week, as it was announced that Jorge Santiago was also let go. The UFC may continue to prosper as Japanese MMA falters.
UPDATE: MMAWeekly is now reporting that Herman is expected to take on British fighter Rob Broughton at UFC 131. Broughton is 1-0 in his UFC career as he defeated Vincius Kappke de Queiroz in his debut.
UFC 131 is scheduled to take place on June 11th and will feature a heavyweight clash between Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos.
