A middleweight bout between John Salter and David Loiseau has been booked for the un-aired preliminary portion of UFC 113 after Salter's originally announced opponent Nick Catone was reportedly forced off the card due to a back injury.
Catone is the third UFC 113 preliminary card fighter who has been forced off of the event in recent weeks, as TUF 7 cast member Tim Credeur was forced out of his middleweight bout against Tom Lawlor due to an undisclosed injury and undefeated prospect Chad Colvin was forced to withdraw from his heavyweight bout against Joey Beltran after his medical paperwork was not approved by the Quebec Athletic Commission.
Canadian heavyweight Tim Hague has since replaced Colvin, and veteran middleweight Joe Doerksen replaced Credeur.
Loiseau (19-9) is 4-1 in his last five bouts, most recently defeating Chester Post at a Mixed Fight League event in February. His lone loss over that span came in his previous bout, as he was defeated by Ed Herman at UFC 97 in April 2009 which led to his release from the UFC. It was his third stint with the promotion.
Loiseau has put together an even 4-4 record with the UFC, scoring Octagon wins over Mark Weir, Gideon Ray, Charles McCarthy and the late Evan Tanner, while suffering other UFC losses to Jorge Rivera, Mike Swick and Rich Franklin in a UFC middleweight title fight.
Salter (4-1) most recently suffered a third-round TKO loss to Gerald Harris in his Octagon debut at January's UFC Fight Night 20 event. Prior to the win, he won the first four bouts of his career fighting for other notable promotions such as King of the Cage and Adrenaline MMA.
The former state high school wrestling champion and NAIA national champion has scored stoppages in all of his four career wins and holds other notable career wins over TUF 7 cast member Jeremiah Riggs and veteran Roberto Travern.
UFC 113 takes place on May 1 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and is headlined by a highly anticipated UFC light-heavyweight title rematch between champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. In addition, welterweight contenders Paul Daley and Josh Koscheck will square off with a possible title shot on the line.
