A welterweight bout between newcomers David Mitchell and Anthony Waldburger is expected to take place at UFC Fight Night 22 on September 15 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. News of the bout was first reported by FiveOuncesofPain.com.
UFC Fight Night 22 is headlined by a middleweight bout between Alan Belcher and Demian Maia. A lightweight rematch between TUF 6 winner Mac Danzig and Matt Wiman will be featured in the night's co-main event.
Mitchell successfully defended his Tachi Palace Fights welterweight title in his last bout, as he scored a first round technical submission win over Poppies Martinez at the promotion's July 9th event. The win moved him to a flawless 4-0 record with Tachi Palace Fights, notching previous wins over notables such as Tim McKenzie, Bobby Green and War Machine.
Mitchell has put together a perfect 11-0 record since making his pro debut in July 2006, picking up wins in other notable organizations such as Cage Combat Fighting Championships and Gladiator Challenge. The Nor-Cal Fighting Alliance fighter is a dangerous submission specialist, having finished nine of his 11 wins by submission.
Waldburger (12-5) is currently on a three fight winning streak, with his most recent coming against Pat Healy at Shark Fights 6 last September. Prior to the wins, he suffered back-to-back losses against UFC veterans Ricardo Funch and Pete Spratt.
During his nearly five-year career, Waldburger has fought for an array of other notable promotions such as Xtreme Fighting Championships, HDNet Fights, King of Kombat and Masters of the Cage. He has finished 10 of his 12 career wins by submission and holds other notable career wins over the likes of Shannon Ritch and Brian Foster
