Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller in the works for UFC 109
by Jacob Camargo on October 17, 2009

Middleweights Demian Maia and Dan Miller will look to bounce back from their first losses in the UFC when they face each other at UFC 109 in February. News of the bout came from a report by MMAjunkie.com.

The UFC's yet unannounced Super Bowl event, UFC 109, is expected to take place on Feb. 6, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV. Former UFC welterweight champions Matt Serra and Matt Hughes are also rumored to be competing at the event.

Maia suffered his first career loss in his last bout, as he was knocked out by Nate Marquardt just 21 seconds into their bout at UFC 102 in August. The loss knocked Maia out of contention for a shot at UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. He previously won the first 11 bouts of his career, including wins in his first five UFC bouts, all by submission, with notable Octagon wins over Ed Herman, Jason MacDonald, Nate Quarry and Chael Sonnen.

Maia still holds an impressive 11-1 MMA record, with 10 of his wins being by stoppage including eight by submission. He holds notable wins outside the UFC over the likes of Gustavo Machado and Fabio Nascimento.

Miller (11-2) was originally slated to return to action against CB Dollaway at UFN 19 last month, however, he was forced out of that event with an injury. He has not fought since losing to Chael Sonnen via unanimous decision at UFC 98 in May. Prior to the loss, he was on a 10-bout unbeaten streak, which included wins in his first three UFC bouts over Rob Kimmons, Matt Horwich and Jake Rosholt.

The former IFL middleweight champ is a veteran of such promotions in his career as Ring of Combat, Reality Fighting and Cage Fury Fighting Championships. He has finished eight of his 11 career wins including seven by submission. Miller holds other notable wins in his career over Lance Everson, John Howard and Ryan McGivern.
