A welterweight bout between the returning Dennis Hallman and the rising prospect John Howard is in the works for the UFC 106 event. News of the bout comes from a report via MMAjunkie.com.
Hallman signed with the UFC last month following a nearly four-year absence from the promotion. He sports a 1-3 record in previous stints with the UFC, with his lone victory coming against Hughes at UFC 29 in December 2000. He suffered losses to Jorge Rivera, Jens Pulver and Frank Trigg in his other UFC appearances.
Hallman (41-12-2) is currently riding a five-fight win streak, with his most recent victory coming against Justin Davis at June's Strikeforce Challengers event. The 12-year veteran of the sport has fought for numerous promotions during his long career, including Strikeforce, IFL, SportFight, King of the Cage, Rumble on the Rock, Shooto and Extreme Challenge. He has finished 32 of his 41 career wins by submission, and he holds another win over Matt Hughes outside the UFC.
Howard (12-4) has won his last five bouts, which include wins in his first two UFC bouts against Chris Wilson, and most recently Tamdan McCrory at UFC 101 last month. He has not lost a fight since November 2007, where he was defeated by current UFC middleweight Dan Miller. Howard has been competing professionally for five years and is a veteran of such promotions as Cage Fury Fighting Championship, Ring of Combat and the IFL. Eight of his 12 career wins have come by way of stoppage.
UFC 106 will take place on November 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the main card will air live on PPV. The event will be headlined by a UFC heavyweight title bout between current champ Brock Lesnar and challenger, Shane Carwin.
