Chael Sonnen can claim that the contracts are not signed. Anderson Silva can continue to cry that Sonnen does not deserve a rematch.
But it will not matter.
UFC President Dana White recently made it clear that Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II will go down in Brazil later this year, according to MMAWeekly.com.
"The fight is happening," White said. "He has accepted the fight, and he will be with me in Brazil for the press conference down there."
The guarantee from White comes after Sonnen cast some doubt on the legitimacy of the planned rematch between him and Silva. Once the UFC officially announced their plans to bring the highly anticipated rematch to Joao Havelange Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sonnen took to Twitter to debunk the report. On the popular social networking website, Sonnen posted the following:
"Not so fast... I will not be participating in anything until my 1 demand is met. My declaration will be made to @jimrome and @jimrome only."
The on-again, off-again middleweight title fight was thrown into an even bigger state of uncertainty when Sonnen's manager, Mike Roberts, confirmed that bout agreements had still not be signed for the historic event.
White's recent comment's seem to put those worries to rest for the time being. With his personal assurance that the fight will go down June, fight fans should be able to sleep easier tonight.
