Diego Sanchez is expected to fight Matt Hughes at UFC 135 according to mmaweekly.com.
Although the UFC have yet to make this bout official, Sanchez did confirm through his twitter stating his fight with the former welterweight champion.
Sanchez's most recent victory was a unanimous decision over Martin Kampmann extending his record to 23-4. Sanchez is riding a two fight win streak, defeating Paulo Thiago as well.
Hughes looks to rebound from a first round knockout courtesy of BJ Penn. The three fights prior to the Penn rubber match, Hughes defeated the likes of Ricardo Almeida, Renzo Gracie and Matt Serra.
Sanchez will look to reestablish his place and title contention within the crowded welterweight rankings with a win over Hughes, after a stint at the UFC lightweight title in 2009. In the post fight interview following his lost to Penn, Hughes hinted retirement. If he loses to Sanchez at UFC 135, it may very well be enough to have the longtime Miletich member calling it a career.
Jon Jones vs. Quinton Jackson is also slated for UFC 135 as well. Jones will be making his first title defense after a dominant performance over Mauricio Rua at UFC 128 which won him the title. Jackson will look towards reclaiming the UFC gold after losing it to Forrest Griffin in late 2008. Jackson is riding a two fight win streak over Matt Hamill and Lyoto Machida.
