Diego Sanchez (23-4) will face off against Matt Hughes (45-8) sometime in the fall, according to MMAJunkie.com.
The bout was not given a date or an event.
The newly renamed Diego "The Dream" Sanchez hopes to continue his winning ways in the welterweight division. After a surprising loss to John Hathaway in his return to 170, Sanchez has reeled off two straight victories over Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann. However, many felt that he was defeated by Kampmann in that fight.
It looked as if Matt Hughes was going to make one more run at the welterweight title when he met B.J. Penn at UFC 123. After victories over Matt Serra, Renzo Gracie and Ricardo Almeida, Hughes was looking to get one more big victory and be pushed towards title contention. Penn put an end to that when he knocked him out in 21 seconds.
The news of the match up obviously puts a damper on Royce Gracie's plans for UFC 134 in Brazil. Gracie had campaigned for another fight with Hughes, but it now seems as if he won't get his wish.
