Dominick Cruz defends his belt against Urijah Faber at UFC 132
by Tim Groves on March 26, 2011

Dominick Cruz (17-1) will put his bantamweight belt on the line against Urijah Faber (25-4) at UFC 132, the UFC just announced via Twitter.

UFC 132 takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 2.

Urijah Faber dealt Cruz his only professional loss back in 2007 when Cruz challenged Faber for his featherweight belt. Two fights later, Cruz dropped down to 135. Since then, Cruz has gone 7-0 in the bantamweight division. He won his title in March of 2010 when he defeated Brian Bowles. Cruz has defended his title two more times since then.

Faber was the long time 145 champion in the WEC, before losing his crown to Mike Thomas Brown in 2008. Faber would challenge Brown once more and then Jose Aldo for the 145 pound belt, losing both times. The California Kid then dropped down to 135. He defeated Takeya Mizugaki in his bantamweight debut last November. He then successfully defeated Eddie Wineland at UFC 128 to earn his title shot.

The two have an ongoing feud, which Chad Mendes described in an interview with us just a few days ago.

The full UFC 132 card now includes:
Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber

Jon Fitch vs. B.J. Penn II

Melvin Guillard vs. Shane Roller

George Sotiropoulos vs. Evan Dunham

Dennis Siver vs. Matt Wiman

Tito Ortiz vs. Ryan Bader

 |  (8) Comments flyangler: I don't like Cruz at all. Faber is going to cut off all that skipping and dancing and pick him apart until he finally gets him down and pounds the poop out off him. Cayne: meh altho Faber is a big name for the first UFC Bantamweight championship defence i honestly dont think he deserves the shot. He scraped a decision against WIneland and was hardly a massive showing from one of the greatest lighterweight fighters ever. i Personally think he should have 1 more fight before the title shot. But i think Cruz willbeat Faber this time around The Hitman: I can't stand Cruz, but I think he wins this. Tonika Fatale: I got to go with Urijah Faber on this.:) fredshaulage: Faber is a beast at 35 but he did not look overly impressive against Wineland. I'm thinking this was still an adjustment phase for Faber and a big jump in competition at this weight. He should have it all worked out by July. Wandering_Minstrel: Cruz all the way. Marker28: I look forward to this one.
