A heavyweight bout between MMA pioneer Don Frye and talented prospect Dave Herman is set for the main event of Shark Fights 6: "Stars and Stripes" on September 12 from the Amarillo Civic Center Coliseum in Amarillo, Texas.
Frye was originally slated to fight Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal in the main event of M-1 Global Presents "Breakthrough" on August 28, however, Frye withdrew from the event when it was relocated from Los Angeles, California, to Kansas City, Missouri.
Since Pride faltered in 2007, Frye has only fought three times but he has gone 2-1 in those bouts. This will be Frye's second-straight appearance for Shark Fights as he defeated Rich Moss in his most recent fight at Shark Fights 4 in May. The longtime UFC veteran has been competing professionally for 13 years, with his first event dating back to February 1996 at UFC 8. He has put together a 20-7-1 MMA record over the years, with 18 of his wins coming by way of stoppage, including 11 by submission. Frye holds notable wins in his career over Gary Goodridge, David "Tank" Abbott and Ken Shamrock.
Herman is coming off a win over Josh Barnes at Bellator 4 in May. Prior to the win, he suffered his first career loss against Choi Mu Bae at January's Sengoku No Ran 2009. The Proelite veteran opened his career with 13 straight wins, including 12 first-round stoppage wins. He holds notable wins over Kerry Schall and Ron Waterman.
