UFC and Pride veteran, Ryo Chonan, is set to fight Hayato Sakruai in a welterweight bout at "Dream: New Years! 2011". Also on the event is Dream's bantamweight grand prix semi-finals according to mmajunkie.com.
Chonan (20-12), perhaps best known for his flying scissor sweep into a heel hook submission win over Anderson Silva in 2004, will try to make it three in a row against Sakruai. Chonan won his last two bouts and recently defeated Naoki Samukawa via unanimous decision.
Sakurai (35-12-2) will look to snap a four fight losing streak if he can put away Chonan. Sakurai will be fighting Chonan after nearly a year's hiatus. Sakurai has fought in Japanese promotions for the majority of his career, fought once in the UFC at UFC 36 against Matt Hughes.
Also on the event is the Dream's bantamweight grand prix semi-finals round which matches up Rodolfo Marques Diniz (14-1) against Bibiano Fernandes (9-3) and Antonio Banuelos (19-7) vs. Masakazu Imanari(24-9-2)
Diniz is riding an 11 fight win streak compared to Fernandes' 6-1 record over seven fights. Banuelos will be fighting his second bout with Dream, spending a four year period with the WEC and one fight with the UFC prior. Imanari will probably look to submit Banuelos to extend his win streak to two fights, 15 of Imanari's 24 victories came from submissions.
Also on the card is the "Crusher" Tatsuya Kawajiri (29-7-2) fighting Kazuyuki Miyata (11-8). Kawajiri last defeated Joachim Hansen via arm triangle choke at Dream 17. Miyata was defeated by Hiroyuki Takaya via split decision at Dream: Fight for Japan, 6-1 over seven fights.
Dream: New Years! 2011 will be held on December 31 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The fights will air on HDNet.
