A jury in Santa Ana, California found Jeffrey Kirby guilty of gross vehicular manslaughter for causing the death of Tapout co-founder Charles "Mask" Lewis. The verdict was handed down earlier today but sentencing won't take place until February 4th.
On the night of the crash, Kirby was driving a 1977 Porsche and Lewis a 2004 Ferrari. Orange County Deputy District Attorney Jason Baez says that Kirby was drinking before getting behind the wheel and that his speeding caused the crash and the subsequent death of the mixed martial arts legend.
It had been reported that Lewis and Kirby were racing their cars the night of the crash but the current members of the TapouT crew, Dan "Punkass" Caldwell and SkySkrape have reported differently on their Twitter accounts. First Tweeted by Skrape was this, " just to clarify,, the passenger in the other car (who was just on a date with the guy) said in court on the stand that Charles WAS NOT RACING!"
Caldwell later released this statement via his Twitter account, "Lots of confusing feelings when I think about the guilty verdict! Just bad shit happens then more bad shit! Nothing is ganna bring him back!"
Nothing will ever bring him back but hopefully the verdict and upcoming sentencing can at least begin to bring his loved ones some sort of closure.
