Dustin Poirier (9-1) and Rani Yahya (16-6) will be locking horns in a bout at UFC 131, according to Heavy.com.
Both of them look to keep the momentum rolling following their stunning upsets over Josh Grispi and Mike Thomas Brown.
Poirier entered the WEC as a lightweight, but dropped his promotional debut against Danny Castillo. He then stopped Zach Micklewright before dropping down to 145 to take on Josh Grispi at UFC 125. Many viewed the fight as a stepping stone for Grispi, as he was scheduled to fight Jose Aldo for the title until the Brazilian was forced to pull out of the bout. Poirier dominated Grispi for all three rounds with a barrage of strikes and a stifling ground game.
The Jiu Jitsu specialist Yahya comes into the bout off of the heels of an upset over former featherweight title holder Mike Thomas Brown at UFC Fight for the Troops 2. Yahya was able to dominate Brown on the ground en route to an unanimous decision victory. Prior to that fight Yahya was 3-2 in the WEC, including two losses in a row to Joseph Benavidez and Takeya Mizugaki. He jumped back up to 145 for the fight with Brown.
It is unknown if the Poirier/Yahya bout will be apart of the televised card at this time.
UFC 131 takes place on June 11th in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is expect to feature a heavyweight clash between Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos after their stint as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter.
