During the second stoppage of three inadvertent knees to the groin by Donald Cerrone to Ed Ratcliff, Ratcliff's mother chimed in and gave an earful of motherly warnings to the "Cowboy."
"She was like, 'Aaaaaahhhhh!' I was trying to calm her down because she was going crazy," Cerrone said. "She was legitimately mad. I said to her, 'I'm so sorry, ma'am. I'm not doing this intentionally. I'm so sorry. Calm down. Don't get me when I get out of this cage.'"
Referee Herb Dean halted action after the first unintentional strike, giving a warning to Cerrone and allowing Ratcliff to recover. However, after the second low blow, Dean deducted a point from Cerrone's total. The same thing happened after the third groin hit.
The commentators made note that with the two point deduction, Cerrone would need a (T)KO or submission in order to win the fight. Luckily for him, he was able to pull off a rear naked choke at 3:47 in the third round, and walk away with "Fight of the Night" honors.
