Eddie Alvarez vs. Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante for DREAM 11
by Jacob Camargo on June 22, 2009

American Top Team fighter, JZ Cavalcante, will take on newly-crowned Bellator lightweight champ, Eddie Alvarez, in a lightweight bout for DREAM 11 in September. Cavalcante's management recently confirmed the bout with MMANews.com.

DREAM 11 will take place at a 'yet to be determined' date in September from Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. DREAM 11 will feature the semifinal bouts of the promotion's featherweight grand prix as well as the "Super Hulk" tournament semi-finals bouts. A third bout between Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza is also likely.

Alvarez captured the Bellator lightweight crown and $100,000 this past weekend by defeating Toby Imada in the tournament final. Alvarez won his previous two Bellator tournament bouts over Eric Reynolds and Greg Loughran. Alvarez, sports a superb 18-2 MMA record, with sixteen wins by stoppage. He holds notable wins over Aaron Riley, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Joachim Hansen and Andre Amade, while only suffering defeats to Nick Thompson and WAMMA lightweight champion Shinya Aoki.

Cavalcante suffered a loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri in his last fight at DREAM 9 following a knee injury that kept him out for more than a year. Prior to DREAM 9, "JZ" was defeated by Shinya Aoki at DREAM 2 in a rematch from their previous bout at DREAM 1. The first fight was ruled a "No Contest" after Aoki was injured by an illegal elbow. Cavalcante hasn't tasted victory since defeating Andre Amade in 2007. 12 of Cavalcante's 14 career wins have come by stoppage and holds notable victories over Vitor Ribeiro, Nam Phan, Bart Palaszewski and Caol Uno.
