Eddie Alvarez vs. Pat Curran set for Bellator 39
by Mike Williams on February 17, 2011

Bellator season 1 winner and current champion Eddie Alvarez will make his first title defense against season 2 winner Pat Curran on April 2.

This bout was slated to take place at the end of season 2 but a Curran shoulder injury delayed it and set up a non-title super fight between Alvarez and former UFC fighter Roger Huerta in which Alvarez dominated and won by TKO.

Since becoming champion, Alvarez has also taken out another former UFC competitor in Josh Neer under the Bellator banner and Katsunori Kikuno in a fight for Japan's Dream organization.

Curran caught the MMA world by surprise by winning fights over Huerta and season 1 finalist Toby Imada on his way to the tournament victory. If the 23-year-old can find a way to keep his 4-fight winning streak alive he'll improve his record to 13-3.
