A bantamweight bout between rising contender Charlie Valencia and former WEC bantamweight champion Eddie Wineland is expected to take place on the preliminary portion of the WEC 49 event in June.

News of the match up was first reported by Wineland, who revealed the match up in a comical post on his official Twitter account.

"just confirmed for june 20th, i will be punch dancing charlie valencia with my chuck norris stache!" said Wineland.

Wineland (16-6-1) is 4-1 in his last five bouts, which includes back-to-back WEC wins over Manny Tapia and most recently George Roop at WEC 46 in January. His lone loss over that span came against Rani Yahya at WEC 40 last April.

Wineland has put together a 3-2 WEC record in three stints with the promotion, becoming the first-ever WEC bantamweight champion by defeating Antonio Banuelos. However, he went on to lose the belt to Chase Beebe in his only title defense.

Wineland has competed for other prominent organizations over his seven-year career such as; Shooto, HOOKnSHOOT, Total Fight Challenge and Extreme Challenge. He has finished 13 of his 16 career wins and holds other notable career wins over the likes of Jason Tabor, Dan Swift and John Hosman.

Valencia (12-5) is currently riding a three fight winning streak, which includes back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Seth Dikun and Coty Wheeler as well as a split decision win over Akitoshi Tamura in his last fight at WEC 46 in January. Prior to the wins, he lost two straight fights against Yoshiro Maeda and Dominick Cruz.

Valencia sports a solid 5-3 WEC record, with other wins coming over Ian McCall and Antonio Banuelos. He has been competing professionally for 10 years, while fighting for other notable promotions such as Gladitor Challenge and King of the Cage, where he put together a 5-2 record in seven fights with the promotion, with his only losses coming against Cub Swanson and Urijah Faber.

The newly announced WEC 49 event takes place on June 20 at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and it will be the promotion's Canadian debut. The event will be headlined by a very interesting lightweight bout between rising contender Kamal Shalorus and former lightweight champion Jamie Varner.
