A lightweight bout between TUF 8 winner Efrain Escudero and Dan Lauzon is in the works for UFC 114 in May. Dan Duggan from The Boston Herald first reported the bout earlier today on his Twitter account.
The bout hinges on the results of Escudero's MRI results which will be known later this week. The results will determine when Escudero can fight again after suffering some tendon damage in his last outing.
Escudero was handed his first career loss in his last bout, suffering a third round submission loss to Evan Dunham at UFC Fight Night 20 last month. He previously won the first 12 bouts of his career, which included wins in his first two UFC fights against Cole Miller at UFC 103 and Phillipe Nover to win The Ultimate Fighter 8 lightweight final in Dec. 2008.
Escudero has fought the majority of his three-year career with the Rage in the Cage promotion, which holds it events in the southwest. He fought seven of his first 10 career bouts with RITC. "Hecho en Mexico" sports a near perfect 12-1 MMA record, with 10 of his wins coming by stoppage including nine by submission.
Lauzon (12-3) is coming off of a first round submission loss against Cole Miler in his Octagon return at UFC 108 on Jan. 2. Prior to the loss, he put together an eight-fight winning streak to earn a invite back to the UFC. Lauzon now holds an 0-2 UFC record, with his other loss coming in his Octagon debut against Spencer Fisher in 2006.
Lauzon has competed for an array of notable promotions during his nearly four-year career such as Rage in the Cage, Combat Zone, World Championship Fighting, Cage Fury Fighting Championships and Affliction. He has finished all of his 12 career wins, including six by KO/TKO.
UFC 114 is tentatively set to take place on May 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will likely be headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between former UFC 205-pound champions and bitter rivals Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
