Australian Elvis Sinosic will face fellow countryman Chris Haseman in a light-heavyweight bout slated for the UFC 110 fight card in February. News of the bout was first reported by Brisbane Times.
Though officially unannounced, UFC 110 is tentatively set for Feb. 21 at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia, and will be headlined by a middleweight bout between Wanderlei Silva and Michael Bisping.
The bout will be a rematch between the two Aussies, as both previously fought at Cage Combat 1 in March 2007 in Sydney, Australia with Haseman scoring a first round submission win over Sinosic in the bareknuckle fight. Haseman made Sinosic tapout by driving his chin into his opponent's eye.
UFC President Dana White recently made a appearance on MMAjunkie.com Radio, where he talked about the possibility of Sinosic appearing at UFC 110 and noted Sinosic would be a part of UFC's debut event in Australia in some facet.
"We had kind of kicked (the idea of Sinosic fighting) around and talked about it," White said. "I don't know where we ended up on that. (But) if he fights or if he doesn't fight, he'll be a part of our promotion over there no matter what. We love that kid. He's the best. He's always been such a good kid to us."
Sinosic (8-11-2) last saw action inside the Octagon at UFC 70 in April 2007, where he was defeated by Michael Bisping via second round TKO. He owns an overall 1-6 UFC record, with his lone Octagon win coming against Jeremy Horn; while suffering UFC losses to Tito Ortiz, Evan Tanner, Renato Sobral, Alessio Sakara and Forrest Griffin.
Sinosic is currently on a two-fight losing skid and hasn't fought since losing to Paul Cahoon at Cage Rage 24 in Dec. 2007, but prior to the losses, he had won two straight. The Pancrese and Rings veteran has finished all eight of his career wins and holds notable victories during his 12-year career over the likes of Mark Epstein and Roberto Traven.
Haseman (20-16) previously competed in the UFC once before, losing to Evan Tanner at UFC 38: "Brawl at the Hall" in July 2002.
Haseman is also coming off of a long layoff, last seeing action at FWC 1: "Return of the Hammer" in November 2008, where he scored his first knockout win over Yuji Hisamatsu. Prior to the win, he had lost four straight, including losses against Mike Van Arsdale, Akihiro Gono and Bill Mahood.
Haseman competed the majority of his 13-year career for Rings, fighting 26 of his 36 career fights for the organization. He has finished 16 of his 20 career wins including 14 by submission and holds other notable career victories over the likes of Alexandre Ferreira and Alexander Otsuka; while losing to top level fighters like Matt Hughes, Murilo Bustamante, Jeremy Horn and Fedor Emelianenko.
