by Jacob Camargo on January 22, 2010

The UFC on Thursday announced the addition of a light-heavyweight bout between Eric Schafer and Jason Brilz to the preliminary portion of its UFC on Versus 1 event on March 21 at the Odeum Colorado in Broomfield, Colorado.

The UFC also confirmed two previously reported bouts for the preliminary card of UFC on Versus 1, including a heavyweight bout between Chase Gormley and Brendan Schaub. Also confirmed was a middleweight bout between sluggers James Irvin and Alessio Sakara.

Schafer (11-4-2) is coming off of a unanimous decision loss against Ryan Bader at UFC 104 in October. Prior to the loss, he won four straight fights, which included back-to-back UFC wins over Houston Alexander and Antonio Mendes. Schafer has put together an even 3-3 UFC record, with his other Octagon win coming over Rob MacDonald. He's suffered other UFC losses to Michael Bisping and Stephan Bonnar.

The HOOKnSHOOT and Xtreme Fighting Organization veteran has finished all but one of his 11 career wins including seven wins coming by submission and holds other notable wins throughout his sporadic 11-year career over Jason Veach and Jason Guida.

Brilz (17-2-1) suffered his first UFC loss in his last bout, dropping a unanimous decision to Eliot Marshall at UFC 103 in September. He previously won 13 straight fights, which included wins in his first two UFC fights against Brad Morris and Tim Boetsch.

Brilz has fought for other notable promotions during his nearly 10-year career such as Victory Fighting Championship, Extreme Challenge, King of the Cage, Ring of Fire and Extreme Beatdown. He has scored stoppages in 14 of his 17 career wins and holds other notable career wins over Michael Patt, Jason MacDonald and Alex Schoenauer.

The UFC on Versus 1 event is headlined by a much anticipated light-heavyweight bout between Jon Jones and Brandon Vera. In addition, rising contender Junior dos Santos will take on former UFC heavyweight title contender Gabriel Gonzaga in the night's co-main event.
