A featherweight bout between undefeated prospect Erik Koch and veteran Jameel Massouh is in the works for the quickly filling WEC 45 card in December. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.
WEC 45 takes place on Dec. 19 at The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV and the main card airs live on Versus. The event is headlined by a lightweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Ed Ratcliff.
Koch was originally rumored to be facing Mackens Semerzier at WEC 45, however, Semerzier is now being targeted for WEC 46 in January.
Koch hasn't fought since scoring submissions wins over Tom Ahrens and Will Shutt in the same night at a Midwest Cage Championship event in April. He was originally set to make his WEC debut against Wagnney Fabiano earlier in the month at WEC 43, but an injury suffered in training forced him off the event.
Koch has put together a 7-0 MMA record since turning pro in January 2007. He has finished all but one of his seven career wins including five by submission and holds a notable career wins over the likes of Tyler Combs and Joe Pearson.
Massouh (21-6) has suffered back-to-back losses in his first two WEC bouts against Raphael Assuncao and most recently to Leonard Garcia at WEC 42 in August. Prior to joining the WEC, he caught the UFC's sister promotion's attention by winning six straight fights.
Despite only competing professionally for four years, Massouh has fought all around the world for notable promotions such as Madtown Throwdown, Adrenaline MMA, Freestyle Combat Challenge and Pancrase. He has finished 17 of his 21 career wins and holds notable victories over the likes of Dustin Neace and Ryan Healy.
