Evan Dunham out of UFC 132, Rafael dos Anjos steps in to face George Sotiropoulos
by Tim Groves on May 04, 2011

An undisclosed injury has forced rising star Evan Dunham out of his UFC 132 bout with George Sotiropoulos, according to MMAJunkie.com. The Sydney Herald Sun reports that Rafael dos Anjos has agreed to replace him.

UFC 132 is currently scheduled for July 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Sotiropoulos vs. Dunham bout was supposed to pit two former rising stars badly in need of a victory. After an 11-0 start to his career, including victories over Efrain Escudero and Tyson Griffin, Dunham suffered two straight defeats. The first was a very controversial decision to Sean Sherk at UFC 119. Fans and journalists everywhere almost unanimously saw the fight for Dunham, but two out of the three judges disagreed. Most recently Dunham suffered a TKO defeat to surging lightweight Melvin Guillard.

Meanwhile, Sotiropoulos was well on his way to a title shot after his victory at UFC 123 over Joe Lauzon. The Australian took what was believed to be an easy fight against Dennis Siver in his native country at UFC 127. Sotiropoulos was unable to get the German fighter to the mat and was battered on his feet for the first two rounds. A much improved third frame simply wasn't enough to catch up on the scorecards, as Sotiropoulos dropped the unanimous decision.

After two straight defeats to open his UFC career, Rafael dos Anjos surged back with three straight victories. The last of the three was a very impressive armbar over British prospect Terry Etim. He was then matched up with fan favorite Clay Guida at UFC 117. Dos Anjos suffered a broken jaw sometime during the two opening rounds. The gutsy Brazilian continued to fight despite the injury. Then in the third frame, Guida got dos Anjos to the ground and applied pressure on his jaw while to trying to control dos Anjos. He quickly tapped due to the pain and has been sidelined ever since recovering from the injury.

UFC 132 will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber.

BUT this is a really awesome fight also. man im going with Dos Anjos in this one. IwishIwasMMA: Uhh.. I will take... Hmm... I will take George. But I like Dos Anjos, so I dont know. flyangler: This went from being a loss for Soto to being a loss for Soto. mike5k: This is a very good fight though. I seriously hope they don't try to stand and bang when neither is very good at it. Go to the ground, guys. Let's see it! IwishIwasMMA: It is a good fight all around. There will be some striking, some rolling and of course some wrestling. It will be a fun fight. Crimsonred: G-Sot should take this, his striking is very crisp, and his ground game is lightyears ahead of Dos Anjos's. He should be able to take him down and win the brief striking exchanges that end in takedowns. I hope. IwishIwasMMA: I would really like to see Sotir hit the strength and conditioning a bit more honestly. Mickey knox: I'm not sure that strength and conditioning would do much about him looking like a frail Quasimoto. He's got a hunch back and a bird chest. He would still look funky even at WW. It would improve his effectiveness in all areas though. EverlastingSpringtime: Hopefully a good ground fight, Sots for another submission, good matchup
