Fedor Emelianenko vs. Dan Henderson discussed by Strikeforce officials
by Tim Groves on March 08, 2011

Fedor Emelianenko may drop to 205 pounds and challenge for the light heavyweight title in 2011, according to Fighters Only Magazine.

The Russian legend had been approached by Strikeforce officials prior to this past weekends Rafael Cavalcante vs. Dan Henderson bout about fighting for the title at 205 pounds. Emelianenko is reportedly interested.

Long viewed as a smaller heavyweight, the cut shouldn't be drastic for Emelianenko. Fans have long clamored for The Last Emperor to drop down to the light heavyweight division, but with his winning streak in tact, Emelianenko never entertained the idea. Now, with two straight losses at heavyweight, a drop down to 205 could do wonders for his career.

Again, the fight is far from signed but Strikeforce has talked with Emelianenko about the drop down in weight and he is interested.

 |  (31) Comments Giada Esposito: Good move for Fedor if he wants to keep fighting. It could provide some interesting fights for him, and also keep him out of the cage with Overeem. horizontalcracker: idk if i like this B_Type13X2: His detractors will just say he is running away from Overeem. But the truth is I have never really liked Fedor at 265 with the new breed of modern HW's that aren't even 265 anymore. They are skilled men walking into the octagon at 280+ now and it is becoming more and more common. What does Fedor weigh usually? 230-240lbs max and he does have a spare tire on him. If he lost that he would be 215-220 maybe thats what most LHW's fight at anyway on fight night. And finally Fedor is P4P #1 greatest of all time in my books. Think about it the P4P talk is brought up to eliminate the size advantage from the equation. And Fedor for years gave up size and won with skill. If the man wants to finally fight people his own size I wont hold it against him. Infact I wish he would have dropped to 205 about 4 years ago so no one would be going insane about it right now. fredshaulage: Poor poor Hendo. This is a fight where there is no possible situation to win In response to the comments regarding Fedor dropping down to a more natural weight I agree 100% with this decision if he makes it. Todays big men are also skilled, something that wasnt present back in the day. Skill beats size but when skill and size exist the smaller guy loses most of the time. GO HARD: yeah i love this fight, but i doubt it happens. The Hitman: Yes please. I would like to see Hendo get s*** on. flyangler: What are all the nuthuggers going to say when Hendo Knocks him out? It is easily a better weightclass for him though, I hope this happens. Cryptic_Soldier: If Fedor could sit between 5-8% body fat he would probobly weigh like 200-210 pounds. He's that fat right now. I would say he's probobly around 30% bodyfat which is considered morbidly obese. In all actuality Fedor is the size of a large MW. Guys like A Silva and Marquart are usually 200-210lb before starting their cuts. Marker28: This seems like SF is fire fighting to keep Fedor with their organization. IwishIwasMMA: Fedor is actually a MW walking around as a HW. He trains very hard, but he has literally no diet. He could take his body fat percentage down big time if he wanted.. Keith Mondaca: I hope matchup does go down, but even if Fedor stays at heavyweight, he will still put on some great fights. I really look forward to seeing how Strikeforce handles this. horizontalcracker: Also, I see this possibly becoming a 215 pound catchweight. 0311USMC: I think the drop would work wonders on extending his career. I love Hendo, but I think this is a bad fight for him. I hate Fedor, but I think he takes the W in this one. Is he the GOAT? He may be the GOATSE, but in no way is he the GOAT. He never fought the best of the best when they were at their best. He fought them after their prime and after fighting weak opponents before them. He never fought top quality day in and day out, therefore IMHO he is a good fight, but nowhere near the GOAT. I am placing my bet now, and I bet with my heart, Hendo 2nd round overhand right for the KO. illegalpoke: I don't see him losing the weight. That's not his style. The guy's never had to cut weight for a fight. May be why he's so naturally good, like Edgar (who never cuts weight). horizontalcracker: If Nog, Cro Cop, Coleman, and Randleman weren't in their prime when he faced then they never had a prime.
