Following last night's heavyweight wins at Strikeforce's "Fedor vs. Rogers" event, Fabricio Werdum might get the chance to fight Fedor Emelianenko.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker had previously stated that the two 265-lbs. winners could meet each other in a future event. Werdum, who scored a unanimous decision victory over Antonio Silva last night, said that he is anxious for Coker to set a date.
"Maybe it's my turn now," Werdum said in the post-fight press conference. "It's my turn to fight Fedor. I have a lot of respect for Fedor. Fedor is the best in the world."
Coker said that discussions still need to take place with Strikeforce and M-1 to determine the next opponent for each fighter, but said that it seemed like a good possibility.
"All the options are going to be open at this point," he said, "but I do think that the fight makes a lots of sense. But we'll have to wait another couple days. Obviously, they'll have to sit down and talk to Fedor, and we'll take it from there. But we'd definitely like to do it. It'd be a great match up."
While Werdum was the winner over Silva at last night's event, Emelianenko scored a second-round TKO victory after a hard-fought battle against Brett Rogers.
