by Jacob Camargo on July 18, 2009

World Victory Road recently announced the first participants for its upcoming Sengoku 10th Battle event. Former EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva, UFC veteran Joe Doerksen and former IFC lightweight champion Ryan Schultz will all compete on the card. Opponents for all three men will be named at a later date.

Sengoku 10 will take place on Sept. 23 from the Saitama Community Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Antonio Silva is relegated to fighting overseas after being suspended in the U.S. for a failed drug test after a July 2008 bout, however, Silva and his manager Alex Davis are confident that a return to competition on U.S. soil could happen in the near future.

Silva is currently on a five-fight win steak, with his most recent coming against Yoshihiro Nakao at Sengoku: "No Ran 2009" in January. Prior to the win, the giant Brazilian went 4-0 under under the EliteXC banner en route to capturing the promotion's heavyweight title. Overall, "Junior" sports an outstanding 12-1 MMA record, with an amazing 10 wins coming via TKO or KO. He suffered his lone career loss against Eric Pele at Bodog Fight: "USA vs. Russia" in December 2006.

Doerksen has won his last three fights, which include wins over Izuru Takeuchi in his Sengoku debut at Sengoku 8 and Gregory Babene at Canadian Fighting Championships 2 in May. Doerksen had lost three straight against Paulo Filho, Ed Herman, and Jason MacDonald respectively before hitting his stride recently. The very seasoned Doerksen has been competing professionally for over 10 years, putting together a 42-12 MMA record, with an outstanding 32 wins by submission. He holds notable wins over the likes of Patrick Cote, Ed Herman, John Alessio and Chris Leben.

Schultz has lost two straight under the Sengoku banner. The first coming against Mizuto Hirota at Sengoku 4th Battle before dropping a loss to Jorge Masvidal at Sengoku 5th Battle last September. Prior to the losses, he put together an impressive 7-2 run with the now-defunct IFL promotion, which includes big wins over Deividas Taurosevicius, Aaron Riley and Chris Horodecki. "The Lion" currently stands at 20-11 in his MMA career with other notable wins over Jason Dent, Mike Aina and Roger Huerta.
