*Benjamin Zeidler's Predictions
Torres vs. Bowles: Brian Bowles is a talented fighter with a knack for pulling off the big submission. Unfortunately, Miguel Torres is too smart and too technical to get caught in one. I'm not sure Torres will be able to finish Bowles, as he has had some difficulties in that realm lately, but I don't see anything that would prevent a 50-45 decision.
Miguel Torres wins via unanimous decision.
Curran vs. Mizugaki: If you're asking me about this fight from an odds perspective, I like Curran's line. But as a straight pick 'em, Mizugaki is the only answer. Curran has looked tentative in his last three rights (all losses) while Mizugaki was rangy and dangerous in his fight with Torres. It is interesting to note that all of Mizugaki's wins have come against Japanese fighters and that he's never beaten an American. I think that will change tonight.
Takeya Mizugaki wins via submission (guillotine).
Benavidez vs. Cruz: Both are racking up nice little win streaks, both understand that the winner of this likely gets a future title shot against Torres, and both are under 26 years old. The result? Should be an all out war with someone getting knocked out like Forrest Griffin.
Joseph Benavidez wins via KO (punch).
Lamas vs. Castillo: This should be an interesting fight considering Lamas' wrestling prowess and Castillo's jiu-jitsu chops. They say styles make fights and so whoever can impose their style should win. I see Lamas taking Castillo down early and then being sorry he went to the ground.
Danny Castillo wins via submission (rear naked choke).
*Gavin Vincent's Predictions
Torres vs. Bowles: When you haven't lost in the past 5 years, rarely go to decision and your name is Miguel Torres, I'd the odds are in your favor. It's hard to pick against Torres (ever) and I'm not about to start now. Bowles, a worthy opponent, just doesn't have an advantage physically or the skill set to take on this bantamweight giant.
Torres in round 2, head kick knockout.
Curran vs. Mizugaki: This is an interesting match-up. Jeff Curran has a strong boxing background and a wealth of experience under his belt. Not too long ago, we saw Takeya Mizugaki take Miguel Torres to a decision. Mizugaki did lose but you have to give him the respect as one of the few men to ever go the distance with the champ. Mizugaki has a cast iron chin and will outlast Curran's boxing.
Mizugaki by unanimous decision.
Benavidez vs. Cruz: The undefeated Joseph Benavidez is ever-improving under Team Alpha Male and Urijah Faber. He has an aggressive style that gives all opponents difficulties. Dominick Cruz is an impressive fighter as well and holds an outstanding record of 13-1. Cruz has beaten all but 1 opponent, and that opponent is... Urijah Faber. The simple fact Faber knows how to beat Cruz and Benavidez trains under Faber, leads me to believe Benavidez will pull out this victory.
Benavidez by TKO late second...
