Dustin Hazelett has stepped out of the cage and into the emergency room. The former UFC submission artist has been working as a paramedic since his release from the UFC according to fightersonlymagazine.co.uk.
Hazelett (12-7) was released from the UFC late last year after suffering from a three fight losing streak. Since then, he has been spending his days working at Emergency Medical Technician as a paramedic with his wife. This is contrasted to his days in the octagon where "McLovin" would look to break his opponents' limbs off and/or choke them unconscious.
"Ever since I tore my ACL, I have been very concerned with getting a career set up so that if, God forbid, I can't fight anymore, I have a career to go work in. It seems more important now that I'm about to be a father." Hazelett said.
Hazelett gained prominence in his early UFC fights, his Submission of the Night wins against Tamdan McCrory and Josh Burkman. The latter even won him Submission of the Year award from numerous MMA publications.
"Right now, I'm working for a private ambulance company. It leaves me a decent amount of time to train, which I really like...I feel like less of a man, although I have gotten stronger from lifting and carrying people all day" Hazelett added.
Whether or not Hazelett would resume MMA competition remains unclear.
