Forrest Griffin out of UFC 114 bout against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
by Natalia Baage on May 04, 2010

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin has pulled out of his UFC 114 fight against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, suffering from a shoulder injury, TMZ has recently reported.

The problem with Griffin's shoulder is currently unknown, but it will sideline him and stop him from competing for over a month. The bout was set to take place on May 29 and would have served as UFC 114's co-main event. No replacement has been named for Nogueira, nor has any word of the bout's status officially been announced.

Even though Griffin has previously stated that a fight against Nogueira would be a "horrible" match up for him, he was intent on fulfilling his obligation in the Octagon. According to The Ultimate Fighter 1 winner, the only advantage he would have against Nogueira is wrestling, stating that the Brazilian has strong punching power and a good chin.

While Griffin won a tough split decision rematch over Tito Ortiz in his last fight, he is only 2-2 in the past two years. A win over the newly-signed Nogueira - who is highly-acclaimed and much-feared - could have propelled Griffin back to the top of the light-heavyweight division.

Nogueira, on the other hand, has gone undefeated in the past two years, amassing a 6-0 record. His last fight - and subsequently his first in the UFC - was a TKO "Knockout of the Night" win over Luiz Cane.
