A light-heavyweight bout between former UFC lightweight champion Forrest Griffin and top-ten ranked Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has been verbally agreed upon for UFC 113 in May. News of the bout was first reported by Tatame.com.
Griffin (17-6), who is The Ultimate Fighter season 1 light-heavyweight winner, is coming off of a split decision win over Tito Ortiz in their rematch, which was the main event of UFC 106 in November. Prior to the win, he lost back-to-back fights against Rashad Evans and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Griffin has put together a 8-4 record in 12 fights with the UFC, scoring other notable Octagon wins over Stephan Bonnar (x2), Elvis Sinosic, Hector Ramirez, Mauricio Rua and Quinton Jackson. Besides the UFC, he has competed for other notable promotions such as Heat Fighting Championships, King of the Cage and International Fighting Championship. Griffin holds other notable career wins outside the UFC over Jeff Monson, Travis Fulton and Chael Sonnen.
Nogueira (18-3) is currently riding a six-fight winning streak, which includes wins over Todd Gouwenberg, Edwin Dewees, Moise Rimbon, Vladimir Matyushenko, Dion Staring and most recently Luiz Cane in his UFC debut at UFC 106 last month. He hasn't tasted defeat since losing at Pride 33 in February 2007, where he suffered a 23-second knockout at the hands of Sokoudjou.
The Affliction, Sengoku and DEEP veteran has finished 11 of his 18 career wins and holds big notable wins in his eight-year career against the likes of Kazushi Sakuraba, Dan Henderson and Alistair Overeem (x2).
UFC 113 now takes place on May 8 from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and the event's main card will air live on PPV. The event was originally slated for May 1, however, UFC President Dana White decided to move the date of the event to avoid a showdown with a possible boxing superfight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley.
UFC 113 will be headlined by a much-anticipated light-heavyweight title rematch between current champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Welterweight contender Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley will also square off for the next shot at the 170-pound title in what's expected to be the night's co-main event.
