The WEC officially added four more bouts to its rapidly growing WEC 46 event in January. The latest additions include two bouts om the Versus-televised main card: a featherweight bout between Mackens Semerzier and Deividas Taurosevicius, as well as a bantamweight bout between Charlie Valencia and Akitoshi Tamura.
In addition, two bouts were added to the preliminary portion of the card: Mark Hominick will face fellow Canadian featherweight Yves Jabouin, and Eddie Wineland will meet fellow bantamweight Rafael Rebello.
WEC 46 takes place on Jan. 10 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and will be headlined by a WEC lightweight title unification bout between WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner and interim title-holder Benson Henderson. Also, former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber will take on rising contender Raphael Assuncao in the co-main event.
Semerzier sports an undefeated 6-0 MMA record, making a big statement in his WEC debut, as he scored a big upset win over Wagnney Fabiano via first-round submission at October's WEC 43. Taurosevicius (11-3) is coming off of a win in his WEC debut against Javier Vazquez at also at WEC 43 event, and is now 7-1 in his last eight bouts. His lone loss over the stetch came against former IFL lightweight champion Ryan Schultz.
Valencia (11-5) will be looking to pick up his third straight win, as he has scored back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Seth Dikun and Coty Wheeler. Tamura (14-7-2) has not fought since defeating Manny Tapia at WEC 40 in April. The win moved him to 2-1 in his last three fights, with his lone loss over that span coming in his WEC debut against Wagnney Fabiano.
Hominick (16-8) is 3-1 in his last four bouts, however, he has not fought since defeating Savant Young at Affliction: "Banned" in July 2008. His sole blemish during the four-fight streak came against Josh Grispi. Jabouin (14-5) most recently suffered a loss in his WEC debut against Raphael Assuncao at WEC 43. Prior to the loss, he caught the WEC's attention by putting together a four-fight winning streak.
Wineland (15-6-1) is coming off of an impressive win over Tapia at WEC 43. With that win, he moved to 3-1 in his last four bouts, suffering his only loss during that time in his previous bout against Rani Yahya. Rebello (6-3) has put together an impressive 5-1 mark in his last six bouts, most recently defeating Kyle Dietz at WEC 41 in June. His lone defeat during the successful strech came in his WEC debut against Kenji Osawa. Rebello was originally set to fight Scott Jorgensen on Oct. 10 at WEC 43, however, he was forced to pull out due to an injury.
