World Victory Road has recently announced four more combatants to its Sengoku Ninth Battle event as UFC and Pride veteran Akihiro Gono, Blagoy Alexandre Ivanov, Pride vet Kazuyuki Fujita, and Eiji Mitsuoka will all compete at the event to be held on Aug. 2.
Blagoy Alexandre Ivanov will make his MMA debut against Kazuyuki Fujita in heavyweight action, but opponents have yet to be named for Gono and Mitsuoka.
Blagoy Alexandre Ivanov may be best known for defeating WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko at the Combat Sambo World Championship in 2008. Ivanov's opponent, Kazuyuki Fujita, hasn't fought since losing to Travis Wiuff at Sengoku Third Battle last June. The longtime Pride veteran, Fujita, holds notable wins over Mark Kerr, Ken Shamrock, Gilbert Yvel, and Bob Sapp.
Eiji Mitsuoka is currently 3-1 in his four fights, with his most recent win coming over Sergey Golyaev at Sengoku:"No Ran 2009." Mitsuoka is a veteran of such promotions as KOTC, Pride and Shooto and he holds notable wins over Gleison Tibau, Rodrigo Damm and Joachim Hansen.
Akihiro Gono is coming off a 1-2 stint with the UFC and was released from the promotion following back to back losses to Dan Hardy and most recently Jon Fitch in January. Gono's lone UFC win came over Tamdan McCrory at UFC 78. The Pride, Shooto, and Pancrase veteran holds career wins over rising MMA stars Hector Lombard and Gegard Mousasi.
Sengoku Ninth Battle takes place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The event will feature the semi-finals of the promotion's featherweight grand prix as well as a Sengoku lightweight title between current champ Satoru Kitaoka and Mizuto Hirota. A middleweight title eliminator bout will also be featured on the card as Kazuo Misaki will battle judoka Kazuhiro Nakamura for a future shot at Sengoku middleweight champion Jorge Santiago.
