Francisco Rivera forced out of bout against Takeya Mizugaki at UFC on Versus 3
by Tim Groves on February 12, 2011

Francisco Rivera (5-1) has been forced out of his bantamweight fight against Takeya Mizugaki (13-5-2) that was scheduled to go down at UFC on Versus 3.

Rivera suffered an undisclosed injury while training for the March 3rd event. Rivera began his career undefeated at 5-0 before making his WEC debut against Eric Koch at WEC 52. He lost via knockout due to a brutal headkick. Rivera was scheduled to make his bantamweight debut.

Mizugaki now waits for a new opponent. Mizugaki was a rather pedestrian 2-3 during his WEC stint, including losses to both Urijah Faber and Miguel Torres. The Japanese fighter was likely fighting for his UFC career.

UFC on Versus 3 is headlined by a welterweight bout between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann. Mark Munoz vs. C.B. Dollaway, Alessio Sakara vs. Rafael Natal and Brian Bowles vs. Damacio Page rounded out the main card. The Rivera/Mizugaki bout was scheduled for the nights preliminary portion.
