Frank Mir feels that he has nothing left to prove when he rematches "Big Nog", Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, at UFC 140 according to bloodyelbow.com.
"There's nothing to prove there...I've been asked if I want to "prove" whether my second-round TKO of Big Nog was legitimate or not, but, quite honestly, there's nothing to prove there," Mir said.
Mir fought Nogueira at UFC 92 and at the time Nogueira was pegged as the heavy favorite to win the bout, only being defeated by Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett since 2000. However Mir would become the first man ever to stop Nogueira in a fight, winning by TKO in the second round.
It was revealed shortly after the fight that Nogueira had been suffering from a staph infection, leading some to question the validity of Mir's win. Some might think that Mir has a perfect opportunity to silence critics when he rematches "Minotauro" at UFC 140 but Mir sees it a little differently.
"I personally don't think his staph infection played much part in the fight itself, or the result at the end of it all...if we'd started having a hard grappling match and Nogueira backed off or refused to engage then, yes, it could have attributed the win to him not being 100 per cent on the night...Me punching him in the chin repeatedly had nothing to do with a staph infection, believe me. I could be sick as hell going into a fight, but I still remember and can perform the necessary techniques to get me out of trouble...Nogueira lost that fight because my striking technique was better than his and that could be the reason he loses this rematch, too," Mir said.
Mir and Nogueira are set to rematch on the main card at UFC 140 on December 10, 2011 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The main event will feature Jon Jones looking to defend his UFC light heavyweight title against Lyoto Machida.
