Don't take Frank Shamrock's current commentating gig as a sign of retirement. Strikeforce's first middleweight champion is heading back in March.
In a recent interview with MMAFighting.com, Shamrock said that he will return to action "in the first week or so of March."
While the card is yet to be announced, so is Shamrock's upcoming opponent. "Whoever brings ratings," he said. "I need ratings. I just need some ratings."
Shamrock (23-10-2) is currently known for his out-of-the-ring work, but told MMAFighting that "I like the fighting much better. The commentary is a lot of work, diligent and studious work. And I would rather sweat and grunt and have a good time.
Shamrock has gone 1-3 in his past three years of fighting. While he defeated Phil Baroni in June 2007 to become the first-ever Strikeforce middleweight champion, he lost his next bout to Cung Le in March 2008. During the Shamrock vs. Le fight, Le landed kicks to Shamrock's right arm, which resulted in a broken, and a corned stoppage TKO victory for Le. Most recently, Shamrock suffered a second-round TKO loss to Nick Diaz.
