Frank Trigg had surgery on his right knee this morning in Las Vegas. The surgery was very successful.
After having knee problems for months, Trigg called the doctor and had a 30-minute procedure to fix the issue.
"It was a lot better than we thought it would be," Trigg told MMAJunkie.com. He said that it took longer for him to wake up from the anesthesia than it did for the doctors to perform the surgery.
Trigg will be out of training for two weeks while his knee heals.
The injury was arthritis-related. The doctors drilled holes into the bone to encourage collagen production. They then cleaned up the area and shaved off some of the bone. Initially, numerous MRIs had indicated that Trigg's injury was a torn meniscus, but the MRIs were incorrect.
Trigg's knee was injured and hurting him months before his UFC 103 fight against Josh Koscheck on Sept. 19. While it had healed, for the most part, in time for the fight, it still felt a little bit "loose." After the UFC 103 bout, Trigg took two weeks off, hoping that it would heal completely with some rest. After the two weeks, his knee felt worse, so he called the doctors.
Trigg has said that he will fight in early 2010, and it has been rumored that he may fight Matt Serra on an unannounced UFC card in early February. Neither fighter has confirmed the bout.
