A second attempt at a featherweight bout between Bryan Caraway and Fredson Paixao is in the works for the non-televised preliminary portion of the WEC 50 card in August. News of the bout was first reported by MMAWeekly.com.
Paixao and Caraway were first supposed to meet at WEC 47 in March, however, Caraway was forced off the card with a late injury.
Paixao (9-3) most recently scored a first round submission win over Courtney Buck at the aforementioned WEC 47 event in March. The win moved his record with the WEC to 1-1 (1 NC), losing in his debut with the promotion against Wagnney Fabiano at WEC 40, which was then followed by a No Contest with Cole Province at WEC 42.
Paixao, who is a highly decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, has been competing professionally for six-years, while fighting for other notable promotions such as DEEP, Pancrese and Jungle Fight. He has finished six of his nine career wins including five coming by submission and holds other notable career wins over Rani Yahya, Thomas Denny and Masakazu Imanari.
Caraway (12-4) hasn't fought since suffering a defeat in his WEC debut against Mark Hominick at WEC 46 in January. Prior to the loss, he won three straight fights to earn a contract with the WEC.
Caraway has fought for an array of notable promotions throughout his career such as EliteXC, Strikeforce, SportFight and International Fighting Championship. He has finished all but one of his 12 career wins, including 11 coming by submission, and holds notable wins over the likes of Noah Thomas and Alex Zuniga
The newly announced WEC 50 takes place August 18 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by a WEC bantamweight title fight between champion Dominick Cruz and Joseph Benavidez.
In the night's co-main event, former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber makes the move down to the bantamweight division and meets Japan's Takeya Mizugaki.
