by Jacob Camargo on January 28, 2010

A featherweight bout between Fredson Paixao and Bryan Caraway is expected to take place on the non-televised preliminary portion of the nearly complete WEC 47 card on March 6 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. News of the bout was first reported by MMAWeekly.com.

Paixao (8-3) last saw action in August 2009 at WEC 42, where he fought Cole Province. He originally suffered a unanimous decision loss to Province, however, the result was changed to a "No Contest" by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after Province tested positive for Steroids. Paixao previously suffered a unanimous decision loss to Wagnney Fabiano in his WEC debut at April's WEC 40 event.

Paixao, who is a highly decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, has been competing professionally for over five-years, while fighting for other notable promotions such as; DEEP, Pancrese and Jungle Fight. He has finished five of his eight career wins including four coming by submission and holds notable career wins over Rani Yahya, Thomas Denny and Masakazu Imanari.

Caraway (14-4) suffered a defeat in his WEC debut against Mark Hominick at WEC 46 earlier this month. Prior to the loss, he won three straight fights to gain the WEC's attention. Caraway has fought for an array of notable promotions throughout his career such as EliteXC, Strikeforce, SportFight and International Fighting Championship. He has finished all but one of his 14 career wins, including 12 by submission, and holds notable wins over the likes of Noah Thomas and Alex Zuniga.

The Versus televised WEC 47 event is headlined by a bantamweight title bout between current WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles and challenger Dominick Cruz.

In addition, former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres returns against rising contender Joseph Benavidez in the night's co-main event. Other bouts featured on the main card include Bart Palaszewski Vs. Karen Darabedyan and Deividas Taurosevicius Vs. LC Davis.
