"I think two good fights would put me back in the mix for title contention. I think my two losses came to two really good guys and they were both by decision, the last one being a split decision that could have gone either way. Kenny became the number-one contender and Gray could easily become that as well... I recently saw, actually, that fight with Fedor vs. Rogers and the show looked amazing. The fights looked great. There's a lot of great fights in that show... I'd definitely like to fight a top-caliber fighter like (Shinya) Aoki, (Gilbert) Melendez, or (Josh) Thomson. Obviously, I'd have to earn my stripes in that organization, if I went there, but any of those fights would be amazing." -Roger Huerta
MMA restricted free agent Roger Huerta is currently weighing his options and seems to be getting more serious about his MMA career after back-to-back losses to top UFC lightweights Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard. It seems that the losses have lit a fire under the once highly regarded prospect, who now wishes to compete again as soon as February or March of next year.
Huerta (20-3-1) recently declined a UFC overture regarding a five-fight extension to pursue a possible career in acting, and can be seen in "Tekken" and "Circle of Pain," both set for release in 2010. However, playing a fighter on screen apparently hasn't done enough to quell Huerta's desire to compete.
The UFC will have one year to match offers from any other promotion in order to retain Huerta's services and keep him fighting in their lightweight division. Huerta's management have indicated that they are fielding serious interest from "various" other organizations which likely include Strikeforce, Bellator FC, and possibly DREAM.
