Gegard Mousasi set to fight Hiroshi Izumi at Dream 17

Gegard Mousasi is set to defend his Dream light heavyweight title against Hiroshi Izumi on July 16, 2011 at Dream 17 according to mmafighting.com.

Mousasi, who is the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion and former Dream middleweight champion, will look to notch a victory over Olympic Judo silver medalist, Izumi.

Mousasi has gone 2-1-1 in his last for fights with his most recent being a draw with UFC veteran, Keith Jardine. Mousasi submitted Tatsuya Mizuno via rear naked choke at Dream 16 to capture the Dream light heavyweight title. Izumi is riding a four fight win streak, defeating Ikuhisa Minowa via tko in his last fight.

Other noticeable match-ups on the card include Dream featherweight title holder, Hiroyuki Takaya, defending his belt against Kazuyuki Miyata. Takaya has gone 6-3 in his last nine fights, wining his Dream featherweight title after a unanimous decision victory over Bibiano Fernandes. Miyata is undefeated as a featherweight with six straight wins in that weight class.

Additionally former Shooto champions, Tatsuya Kawajiri and Willamy Freire will also battle in the lightweight division.

The Ultimate Fighter season 8 veteran, Shane Nelson is also planning to make his debut in the promotion at this event after previously being considered to fight Shinya Aoki at Dream: Fight for Japan.

Dream 17 will take place in the Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan.
