Gegard Mousasi vs. Gary Goodridge at Dynamite!! 2009; Sandro out
by Jacob Camargo on December 29, 2009

One last bout has been announced for the year-end "Dynamite!! 2009" event, as Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will face longtime veteran Gary Goodridge.

The bout will be fought under full MMA rules, not contested as a K-1 bout as previously rumored.

The Dream, World Victory Road and K-1 collaborated event takes place on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The K-1 and MMA mixed card will air in North American on HDNet.

Mousasi (27-2-1) is currently riding an impressive 14-fight winning streak, with stoppages coming in 12 of those wins. Over that span, he won the 2008 DREAM middleweight grand prix tourney, scoring wins over Denis Kang, Dong Sik Yoon, Melvin Manhoef, and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza. His success continued in Japan as he later defeated Mark Hunt at DREAM 9 in May.

Most recently, Mousasi made his mark in the States by scoring a 60-second TKO win over veteran Renato "Babalu" Sobral at Strikeforce: "Carano vs. Cyborg" in August to capture the promotion's light-heavyweight belt. He last saw action in November at the Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Rogers" event, where he notched a second-round TKO win over Sokoudjou in a non-title bout.

During his six-year career, Mousasi has competed for other notable organizations such as M-1, DEEP, Rings and Pride. He has scored stoppages in 25 of his 27 career wins and holds other notable career wins over the likes of Evangelista Santos and Hector Lombard.

On the other end of the spectrum, Goodridge (23-19-1), who may be best known for finishing second in UFC`s heavyweight tournament at UFC 8: "David vs. Goliath" in February 1996, has lost his last four bouts; including losses against Paul Buentello, Terroll Dees, Mu Bae Choi and most recently Alistair Overeem at Ultimate Glory 10 in November of 2008. He has not tasted victory since March 2007, where he scored a first round TKO win over Jan Nortje.

The longtime UFC and Pride veteran has finished all but one of his 23 career wins and holds notable victories over his 13-year career over the likes of Oleg Taktarov, Don Frye and Paul Herrera while suffering losses to notables such as Mark Coleman, Marco Ruas, Igor Vovchanchyn (x2), Ricco Rodriguez, Gilbert Yvel, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Heath Herring and Fedor Emelianenko.

In other "Dynamite!! 2009" news, Marlon Sandro has been forced out of his featherweight bout against Hideo Tokoro due to an injury suffered in training.

The bout was one of the many match ups featured in the 'DREAM vs. Sengoku' series. However, the series will remain intact, as Sengoku veteran Jong Man Kim will replace Sandro and face Tokoro.

Kim (21-10-3) is winless in his last seven bouts, most recently suffering his second straight loss against Hiroshi Nakamura in August. His last victory came all the way back in October 2007, where he scored a split decision win over top-ranked featherweight, Hatsu Hioki.
