Gegard Mousasi vs. Mike Kyle officially announced for April 9th Strikeforce event
by Tim Groves on March 05, 2011

During Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson, Strikeforce officials announced that Gegard Mousasi (30-3-1) would face off against Mike Kyle (18-8-1 1 NC) on April 9th, not Roger Gracie as original reports stated.

The fight will take place on the Strikforce: Diaz vs. Daley card in San Diego, California.

After losing his Strikeforce light heavyweight crown to Muhammed Lawal, Mousasi has gone on to win two straight fights. He has competed for the Japanese promotion Dream, winning fights in both July and September. The Armenian hasn't fought since.

Mike Kyle is coming off of a loss to heavyweight Antonio Silva, that saw him rock and almost finish the Brazilian in the first round. Kyle, who normally fights at 205, stepped in to fight at heavyweight on short notice. Prior to that he had reeled off four straight victories.

Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley will feature two title bouts. The main event will see welterweight title holder Nick Diaz attempt to defend his belt against British striker Paul Daley. Gilbert Melendez will rematch Japanese fighter Tatsuya Kawajiri in a lightweight title fight. The two fought to a close decision in 2006 that saw Melendez walk as as the victor.
