Gegard Mousasi vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou completes CBS portion of Nov. 7 Strikeforce card
by Jacob Camargo on October 09, 2009

Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will lock horns with UFC and Pride veteran Sokoudjou in a non-title bout set for the CBS televised portion of the Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Rogers" event on Nov. 7 in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

News of the bout was first reported by MMAFanHouse.com. According to the report, Strikeforce had submitted the Sokoudjou vs. Mousasi fight to the Illinois' athletic commission.

Mousasi and Sokoudjou were originally slated to meet in the semi-finals of DREAM's "Super Hulk" open weight Tournament at DREAM 11, however, Mousasi was forced off of that event with a shoulder injury. Mousasi is believed to have suffered the injury during an exhibition sparring match with Fedor Emelianenko at M-1: "Breakthrough" in August.

Mousasi (26-2-1) is currently riding a 13-fight winning streak, with his most recent win coming in his Strikeforce debut in August, where he captured the promotion's light-heavyweight title by dethroning Renato Sobral quickly. Prior to joining Strikeforce, he went a perfect 5-0 with DREAM, winning the promotion's middleweight grand prix in 2008. Mousasi has not lost since August 2006, where he was handed his second career loss by Akihiro Gono.

Mousasi has competed for other promotions during his six-year career such as Pride, DEEP, Bodog Fight and Hardcore Championship Fighting. The 24-year old Armenian/Dutch fighter has finished 24 of his 26 career wins and he holds other notable wins over the likes of Hector Lombard, Denis Kang, Melvin Manhoef and Ronaldo Souza.

Sokoudjou (7-4) has won his past two bouts, which includes two wins in his first two bouts under the DREAM promotion against Jan Nortje and Bob Sapp. Prior to the wins, his stock took a tumble as he lost two straight fights in the UFC and Affliction against Luiz Cane and Renato Sobral.

The Team Quest fighter, Sokoudjou, has finished all but one of his seven career wins. He is best known for his emergence onto the MMA scene two years ago in Pride when he scored two upset wins over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona.

The Nov. 7 Strikeforce CBS card is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers. Other bouts to be featured on the CBS televised portion of the card include a Strikeforce middleweight title bout between Jake Shields and Jason "Mayhem" Miller, as well as a heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Silva.
