UFC welterweight champion, George St. Pierre, will not be making his seventh title defense against Carlos Condit at UFC 137. A knee injury forces St. Pierre off the card and the Nick Diaz vs. BJ Penn will now headline.
"I just land in NYC and what do I always say!? I have to deal with bad sh*t everyday!! GSP is out with an injury!!!...It's GSP'S knee. We will sit Carlos to wait for GSP. It's looking so far like he could be ready in a couple months. Still early to tell tho" Dana White, UFC president, said through his twitter account.
In light of recent events, Josh Koscheck has even offered to step up to face Condit but "The Natural Born Killer" has opted to wait for St. Pierre's recovery.
"Gotta respect Kos offering to fight Condit on a week notice. I respect the sh*t outta u Josh! He's waitin 4 GSP tho" White said on twitter.
The co-main event featuring Diaz vs. Penn will now be headlining the October 29 event. Diaz was originally scheduled to fight St. Pierre but after numerous missed press conferences, he was removed from the bout and replaced by Condit.
The winner of the Diaz vs. Penn matchup is also speculated to be the next in line for a shot at the UFC welterweight title.
UFC 137 will be held on October 29 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Diaz vs. Penn in as the main event complemented by Cheick Kongo vs. Matt Mitrione, Mirko Filipovic vs. Roy Nelson, Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop and Dennis Siver vs. Donald Cerrone on the main card.
