George St. Pierre's recent ACL surgery to repair damaged ligaments was a huge success as "Rush" reveals on his twitter account.
"Dr. ElAttrache says my surgery (ACL patellar tendon autograft) was huge success! Ligament very strong. Tks for support," tweeted St. Pierre.
The UFC welterweight champion was originally scheduled to defend his title against Nick Diaz at UFC 143 but the ACL injury suffered in training prompted his removal and subsequent surgery. In fact this is his second injury of 2011, first suffering a MCL sprain that pulled him from a bout with Carlos Condit at UFC 137.
Diaz is now set to fight Condit at UFC 143 for the UFC's interim welterweight title until St. Pierre can make a full recovery.
Despite the successful surgery, there is still no set date for St. Pierre's return to the Octagon. As his personal friend and doctor, Sebastian Simard, initially pointed out, the recovery time can take anywhere from six to nine months.
