Georges St. Pierre and Frank Mir camp say Mir will beat Brock Lesnar
by Natalia Baage on July 10, 2010

Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar are tied at 1-1 when they've faced each other in the Octagon, but Lesnar's victory was more convincing and bloody than Mir's. Regardless, some big names are still backing Mir's chances of winning the deciding bout.

"We believe Mir is going to be the guy to knock out Brock Lesnar," Jimmy Gifford, Mir's trainer, told the Las Vegas Sun. "Me, G.S.P., Freddie Roach - we all agreed Mir can do it. We see holes in his game we know we can expose."

Shane Carwin found holes in Lesnar's game to expose and seemed on the brink of victory in his UFC 116 bout against Lesnar after delivering some vicious ground and pound. The judges scored the first round 10-8 for Carwin. However, the second round saw Lesnar take Carwin to the mat, gain side control and secure an arm triangle choke.

What does Mir plan to expose in Lesnar's game? The Las Vegas native hasn't had much luck against opponents who are significantly bigger than him (and the biggest in the heavyweight division) in Lesnar and Carwin.

He bulked up for his recent fights, weighing in at close the 265-lbs. limit. His newly-gained muscle mass was coupled with new wrestling skills, however, none of these efforts won him the fight. He now is working to shrink his body back down to his old fighting weight of 245 lbs.

"Mir learned a lot over the last couple of fights," Gifford said, "and I think the easiest thing to learn is: you're not going to move immovable objects. So we better find another way."

But before Mir gets another shot at Lesnar - whether Lesnar remains the champion or someone else captures the throne - he has a rematch with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira scheduled for UFC 119. While Mir eventually still wants another shot at and would "love to fight" Lesnar, the animosity between the two seems to have dialed down.

"They don't stand for the same things, that's obvious," Gifford said. "But I don't know if it's about good vs. evil. In Mir's mind, it's about martial arts vs. this big gorilla who really is just a big gorilla."

Next up for Lesnar, though, is Cain Velasquez, who he will take on at UFC 121. The winner of that fight, UFC President Dana White confirmed, will fight the winner of Junior dos Santos vs. Roy Nelson, who will fight at next month's UFC 117.

Mir will next take on Nogueira in a rematch of their UFC 92 bout, which Mir won via TKO. There was controversy following this fight, with many saying that Nogueira lost because he was suffering from staph infection and was in the hospital a few weeks before the bout.

Whatever the case was, Mir and Nogueira will settle their score on September 25 at UFC 119.

JujitsWho: Mir is an assdouche that is all The Hitman: Brock will fuckin kill Mir. KILL HIM. On a side note, Mir is going to beat Nog again. IwishIwasMMA: This just in.. Mir really is not that good. I guarantee you if Werdum fought him, he could just as easily beat Mir on the ground as he did Fedor. Overeem/ubereem would unbelievably beat the fucking life out of his head until he was bored of it. You think Mir can strike? Wait until you put him in there with an elite level striker. Can you say KTFO? Hell Rogers, Big foot and AA (the one who actually uses his boxing well and keeps good movement.. not the current one) would all defeat Mir pretty convincingly as well. As for the current UFC roster, JDS would put him to sleep, Cain would have a field day, Carwin already did, and Lesnar played ball on his field for something to do. Others like BC, Classic Nog, and.. hell.. even Couture all have credible shot at beating him. Technique: It's easy to see holes when your sitting on your couch with no pressure. Capitalizing on those holes, under the big lights and in front of millions is another story. He thinks he can knock out a guy that the hardest puncher in the division couldn't do. He watched two guys that beat him expose each other and now he thinks he can win lmao. I don't see him fighting brock for the title ever again. The only way I see a rubber match taking place is if Brock loses. Plus Mir is way to obsessed with Brock and if he doesn't get his head right he will be dreaming about brock on the canvas after losing to a fighter he wasn't focused on.
