Jorge Rivera's dream of fighting in front of his hometown crowd will have to wait a little bit longer. Rivera was anticipating to be a part of history for MMA in his home state of Massachusetts at UFC 118. However, the Milford born native has withdrawn from his fight with Alessio Sakara due to a broken arm suffered while training.
Sources close to the UFC confirmed to mmajunkie.com that Gerald Harris has verbally agreed to replace Rivera on the UFC 118 under-card. Official bout agreements should be finalized in the next few days.
Harris (17-2, 3-0 UFC) was a TUF 7 contestant, who lost to the eventual winner Amir Sadollah. Since that defeat, Harris has strung together ten consecutive wins. He has already fought three times this year, earning two "Knockout of the Night" bonuses against John Salter and Dave Branch, as well as a KO victory over Mario Miranda.
Alessio Sakara (15-7, 6-4 UFC) will be seeking his fourth straight victory. Sakara has collected wins over Joe Vedepo, James Irvin and Thales Leites after starting his UFC career 1-3.
Rivera vs. Sakara was originally scheduled for the "UFC Prelims" show on Spike TV, but it is not clear if Harris vs. Sakara will fill that slot, or be moved to the un-aired prelims.
UFC 118 will take place August 28 from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
